P38 Lightning
The museum contains aircraft of all ages. Here is a second world war P38 Lightning, immaculately restored. Around the museum were old WWII pilots who recounted tales. Stan Richardson Junior told me about how he was based at Nuthampsted, then Wormington in East Anglia flying P38's. On one occasion he and some collagues flew all the way to Berlin on what was meant to be the first daylight raid by the US air force, but never found the bombers they were supposed to escort. Turning back he was hit by anti-aircraft fire and had to shut down one engine. He nursed the other all the way back to the UK and crash-landed at Cottishall. When he phoned his unit they asked him why he hadn't responded to the recall - the operation had been called off!
